Disassembling together a grand piano - Softening no. 3 (2023)

A workshop open to everybody who are interested in taking part in the proces of disassembling a grand piano together and thereby exploring the potential of splitting something apart. Creating something different - something with another orientation.

In the end the grand piano is separated and all parts placed on the floor like the giblets of a frog under a microscope.

The disassembling process was in this version led by piano expert Vilhelm Rasmussen (from Vilhelms Musikværksted).

This project investigates Western musical instruments as being critical and even dangerous sites that should be approached with the greatest caution; as loaded interfaces - not only between mechanical movement and the production of sound, between phantasms and physical reality, but also as contaminated places that should be treated as as such.
